Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain northeast of Wind Lake, 18 miles northeast of Ely; along a small drainage ~1/3-mile from the lake.

Habitat: Local on a subtle ~1/4-acre rise in an old beaver meadow, along a small drainage ~1/3-mile from the lake. Mesic, rocky, loamy soil, ~2 feet above the wetland. Full sun to partial shade of young Picea glauca, in a savanna-like setting. Forming a rather dense patch, covering a 10- x 10-foot area. Meadow is recovering from past flooding; large dam was breached prior to 1991.
Associated Species: Associates include Lactuca canadensis, L. biennis, Potentilla norvegica, Viola novae-angliae, Dryopteris cristata, Botrychium multifidum, Rubus strigosus, Agrostis scabra.
