Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Fairly rugged bedrock terrain between Newfound and Manomin Lakes, 20 miles east-northeast of Ely; west of Juggler Lake.

Habitat: Uncommon to locally frequent in a large bedrock outcrop complex atop a 100-foot ridge. In thin detrital-organic soil over level to sloping granitic bedrock. Small dense patches, typically amongst Cladina lichens. Full sun.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Juniperus communis, Amelanchier spicata, Prunus susquehanae, P. pensylvanica, Rhus glabra, Woodsia ilvensis, Sibbaldiopsis tridentata, Corydalis sempervirens, Verbascum thapsus, Agrostis scabra, Dichanthelium linearifolium, Danthonia spicata.
