Habitat:
Occasional in a small (~3/4-acre) vernal ash swamp at the back of a small cove. Fairly dense canopy of Fraxinus nigra, with scattered F. pennsylvanica; also Betula allegheniensis and large Thuja occidentalis on the margin of the wetland. Moist, shallow, organic soil. Fairly dense clumps; loose patches.

Associates include Carex intumescens, C. arcta, Calamagrostis canadensis, Galium tinctorium, Scutellaria lateriflora, Mentha arvensis, Climacium dendroides, Sphagnum squarrosum.
