Occasional in a small (~3/4-acre) vernal ash swamp at the back of a small cove. Fairly dense canopy of Fraxinus nigra, and several F. pennsylvanica; with Betula allegheniensis and large Thuja occidentalis on the margin of the wetland. Moist, shallow, organic substrate. Petals white, in 3's; leaf whorls mostly 4's, a few 5's.
Associates include Carex arcta, C. intumescens, C. projecta, Scutellaria lateriflora, Equisetum sylvaticum, Mentha arvensis, Climacium dendroides, Sphagnum squarrosum.
