Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Fairly rugged bedrock terrain along the Canadian border, 15 miles northeast of Ely. Local on the west end of Washington Island, Basswood Lake.

Habitat: Uncommon, scattered plants on the edge of a small vernal swamp. On low, narrow peninsula in a level spot a few inches above the elevation of the swamp. Shaded below canopy of mature Quercus macrocarpa, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Acer saccharinum, and Betula papyrifera.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Equisetum arvense, Scutellaria galericulata, Maianthemum canadense, Campanula aparinoides, Pyrola elliptica, Iris versicolor, Rubus pubescens, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Ilex verticillata.
