Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain southeast of Basswood Lake, 18 miles northeast of Ely; on the western end of Manomin Lake.

Habitat: Locally common in a fairly extensive poor fen. Forming loose to dense patches, occasionally as the dominant cover, in portions of the broad (100-300 feet wide) open fen zone bordering the lake. Full sun. Deep, wet, buoyant peat. Continuous Sphagnum carpets. Foliage with a subtle blue hue.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex limosa, Scheuchzeria palustris, Sarracenia purpurea, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Andromeda glaucophylla, Myrica gale.
