Occasional to common in rich shore fen. Forming patches of inter-tangled stems along the edge of the lake, and well back from the water in the broad fen zone here. Full sun. Deep, saturated peat. Continuous Sphagnum carpets.
Associates include Scheuchzeria palustris, Carex lasiocarpa, Eriophorum virginicum, Andromeda glaucophylla, Chamaedaphne calyculata.
