Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Along the shores of Basswood Lake in strongly rolling bedrock terrain 12 miles northeast of Ely; along the boggy western shore of Back Bay.

Habitat: Occasional to common in shallow water. In water ~2-4 feet deep, from near the shore to far out in the shallow bay. Substrate is deep, soft, unconsolidated silty organics. Inflorescences held slightly emergent, remainder of plant submerged. Full sun.
Associated Species: Associates include Zizania palustris, Utricularia intermedia, U. minor, U. vulgaris, Potamogeton gramineus, P. pusillus var. tenuissimus, Nymphaea odorata, Najas flexilis, Brasenia schreberi.
