Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Along the shores of Basswood Lake in strongly rolling bedrock terrain 13 miles northeast of Ely; in the southeastern portion of Back Bay.

Habitat: Locally abundant on a small islet. Hundreds of plants. Loose to dense patches in level to sloping setting atop a ~0.1-acre island that rises ~12 feet out of the shallow bay. Rooted in detritus and silty sand amongst rocks and small boulders. Full sun to partial shade of small Betula papyrifera, and dead Pinus resinosa, P. strobus. Island gets much use by wildlife (Canada geese).
Associated Species: Associates include Hypericum majus, Logfia arvensis, Parthenocissus inserta, Vaccinium angustifolium, Agrostis scabra, Carex tonsa, Dichanthelium acuminatum.
