Habitat:
Local on a small islet. A dozen or so shrubs / small trees on the rocky slopes of a ~0.1-acre island that rises ~12 feet out of the shallow bay. Rooted in silty sand amongst rocks and boulders. Mostly in full sun. Island is impacted by frequent wildlife use (especially Canada geese). Fruits red and green; the upper side (exposed to more direct sunlight) is red.

Associates include Myrica gale, Cornus stolonifera, Ilex verticillata, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Osmunda regalis.
