Habitat:
Local atop a dry, 60-foot, south-facing cliff at the tip of a 1/4-mile long bedrock ridge jutting out into lake. Mostly in full sun (partial shade of Juniperus communis and Pinus banksiana part of the day). Scattered small, dense patches, amongst Cladina lichens. In shallow detritus on ledges and in subtle depressions over level to steeply-sloping biotite schist bedrock (Vermilion Granite Complex).

Additional associates include Woodsia ilvensis, Polygonum cilinode, Corydalis sempervirens, Rhus glabra, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Danthonia spicata.
