Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; On the shores of Basswood Lake in fairly rugged bedrock terrain 12 miles northeast of Ely. Local near campsite #30 on the north shore of Pipestone Bay, one mile southwest of Lewis Narrows.

Elevation: 398 meters Verbatim Elevation: 1305 feet

Habitat: Shallow rocky soil over bedrock behind a narrow zone of Myrica gale that lines the shore. Upland setting, ~10 feet inland and 2-4 feet above lake level on the lower portion of a 15-foot high southeasterly sloping granitic outcrop. Full sun to partial shade of Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Alnus incana. Shrubs, to 7 feet tall, loaded with red to dark purple fruits.

Associated Taxa: Additional associates include Spiraea alba, Osmunda regalis, Smilax lasioneura, Euthamia graminifolia, Calamagrostis canadensis.
