Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; On the shores of Basswood Lake in rolling bedrock terrain 14 miles northeast of Ely; on the western shore of the main body of the lake southwest of Washington Island.

Habitat: Frequent in a vernal ash swamp behind a fairly extensive sand beach. Interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra. Patchy understory of Alnus incana, Fraxinus nigra, and Ulmus americana. Loose clumps in wet mucky substrate, mostly on slightly higher microsites.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex tuckermanii, Glyceria canadensis, Galium trifidum, Ranunculus gmelini, Alisma triviale, Scutellaria galericulata, Calla palustris, Sium suave, Veronica scutellata, Myosotis scorpioides.
