Habitat:
Very locally abundant on a steep, 40-foot, north-facing slope above a small bay. Mesic hardwood forest dominated by mature Quercus rubra, Tilia americana, and Acer saccharum. Tall understory of Acer saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. Forming loose to dense patches, thousands of fronds here. Silty soil.
