Habitat: Occasional to frequent rather locally on the lower third of a very steep, 200-foot, north-facing bluff. Weakly-algific microsite in rich mesic hardwood forest. Small to large trees (to ~20 inches D.B.H.) in a patchy canopy with Tilia americana. Very rocky (dolomite) colluvial silt.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Acer spicatum, Sambucus pubens, Adiantum pedatum, Asarum canadense, Circaea alpina, Laportea canadensis, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Cystopteris bulbifera, Impatiens capensis, Mitella diphylla.
