Habitat:
Occasional to fairly common in rich mesic hardwood forest on narrow valley floor and lower half of the adjacent 240-foot, north-facing bluff. Canopy dominated by mature Tilia americana and Acer saccharum. Understory of Acer saccharum, Carpinus caroliniana, Ostrya virginiana, Ulmus americana, and U. rubra. Colluvial silt.

Associates include Carex hirtifolia, C. blanda, C. laxiculmis, Geum canadense, Asarum canadense, Laportea canadensis, Isopyrum biternatum, Deparia acrostichoides, Dryopteris goldiana, Adiantum pedatum, Cystopteris bulbifera.
