Habitat:
Uncommon and local on the upper portion of a moderately steep, 20-foot, north-facing, river bank. Narrow strip of mesic forest. Canopy of Betula papyrifera and Populus tremuloides. Understory of Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, and Abies balsamea. Clay over sand. Spreading, multi-stemmed shrubs, to 4 feet tall, with branches ~5 feet long.
