Habitat: Occasional on the upper portion of a moderately steep, 20-foot, north-facing, river bank slope. Narrow strip of mesic forest. Canopy of Betula papyrifera and Populus tremuloides. Understory of Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, and Abies balsamea. Clay over sand. Small loose clumps.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex peckii, Galium triflorum, G. boreale, Clintonia borealis, Streptopus roseus, Maianthemum canadense, Aster macrophyllus, Anemone quinquefolia, Pyrola asarifolia, Equisetum scirpoides, E. arvense, Mitella nuda, Diervilla lonicera, Taxus canadensis.
