Habitat: Locally common on the upper portion of a moderately steep, 20-foot, north-facing river bank slope. Narrow strip of mesic forest. Canopy of Betula papyrifera and Populus tremuloides. Understory of Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, and Abies balsamea. Clay over sand.
Associated Species: Associates include Clintonia borealis, Mitella nuda, Galium triflorum, G. boreale, Maianthemum canadense, Aster macrophyllus, Anemone quinquefolia, Streptopus roseus, Athyrium angustum, Equisetum scirpoides, E. arvense, Taxus canadensis, Diervilla lonicera, Carex peckii, C. pedunculata.
