Habitat: Occasional in a narrow strip of mesic forest. Level ground near the river bank. Canopy of young Populus tremuloides, regenerating from logging ~20 years ago. Forming loose clumps, often aggregated into small loose patches.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex deweyana, C. intumescens, Asarum canadense, Trillium cernuum, Aster macrophyllus, Actaea rubra, Anemone quinquefolia, Osmorhiza claytonii, Pyrola asarifolia.
