Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain north of the Fernberg Road, 15 miles east-southeast of Ely.

Habitat: Local in bedrock woodland atop a 150-foot basaltic (Knife Lake Group) ridge near the southwest end of Moose Lake. Partial shade of Pinus banksiana, Populus tremuloides, Acer rubrum, Abies balsamea, and Salix humilis. Large loose patch with hundreds of vertical shoots. Shallow soil over bedrock, in a broad, shallow bedrock hollow. Amongst thick carpets of Pleurozium schreberi.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Amelanchier interior, Commandra umbellata, Pteridium aquilinum, Maianthemum canadense, Clintonia borealis, Aster macrophyllus.
