Habitat:
Uncommon in an open woodland atop a 150-foot bedrock ridge near the southwest end of Moose Lake. Partial shade. Patchy canopy of young Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera. Patchy shrub layer of Salix humilis, S. bebbiana, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Acer rubrum, and Amelanchier sp. Shallow silty soil over basalt (Knife Lake Group). Several vigorous clumps.
