Habitat:
Locally abundant in poor fen. Quaky saturated peat. Often in Sphagnum carpets, sometimes in shallow water (<3 inches deep). Forming dense patches in subtly lower and wetter depressions in a zone of low-statured vegetation that extends from the lake up to 30 yards inland in some spots. Full sun.

Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, Xyris montana, Pogonia ophioglossoides, Sarracenia purpurea, Drosera rotundifolia, Myrica gale.
