Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Strongly rolling bedrock terrain north of the Fernberg Road between the Moose Lake Road and Uncle Judas Creek, 16 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Habitat: Local in a bedrock woodland on a small (1/2-acre) island that rises ~25 feet out of a peatland northeast of Gem Lake. Full sun to partial shade of Pinus banksiana and Picea mariana. Shallow silty soil over a dacitic quartz-feldspar porphyry (bedrock) outcrop. Level to steeply-sloping settings. Small, loose to dense patches. Plants to ~24 inches tall. Occasional and sporadic in similar settings in the general vicinity.
Associated Species: Associates include Vaccinium myrtilloides, V. angustifolium, Rubus strigosus, Gaultheria procumbens, Polygonum cilinode, Danthonia spicata.
