Locally common on the margin of a sedge meadow along Uncle Judas Creek. Forming small dense patches in an ecotonal (semi-terrestrial) setting at the edge of the mesic upland forest. Shaded beneath tall, dense Alnus incana. Soil is shallow, moist, loamy-organic over bedrock.
Associates include Carex stricta, Spinulum annotinum, Maianthemum canadense, Lycopus uniflorus, Rubus pubescens, R. strigosus, Spiraea alba.
