Uncommon and local on 20- to 30-foot, northwest- facing cliffs on the upper portion of a 100-foot bedrock ridge along Uncle Judas Creek. Partial shade of Betula papyrifera and Populus tremuloides. Mesic to dry-mesic settings. Small patches on narrow ledges, and along crevices of the metamorphic diabase.
Associates include Dryopteris fragrans, Polypodium virginianum, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Lonicera canadensis.
