Habitat: Occasional in second-growth mesic hardwood forest. Canopy of maturing Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, Populus tremuloides, Acer rubrum, and Tilia americana. Patchy to dense understory of Acer saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. Forms loose clumps and small patches. Silty-clay with numerous stones.
