In a second-growth upland forest only slightly elevated above a low wet ash swamp. Habitat
Soils are moist sandy loam.
Dominated by Quercus rubra and Acer rubrum. Associated with Trillium grandiflorum, Equisetum sylvaticum, Panax quinquefolius, Equisetum pratense.
