Habitat: Rare, local in northern mesic hardwood forest dominated by Acer rubrum, Betula papyrifera, Quercus rubra. Abies balsamea in subcanopy.
Substrate: Sandy loam.
Associated Species: Gaultheria procumbens, Dryopteris carthusiana, Dendrolycopodium hickeyi, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum.
