Locality: United States, Minnesota, Pine, Nemadji State Forest. About 14.5 km northwest of Cloverton. On the Park Truck Trail, about 11 km west of the intersection with the Gandy Dancer Trail.

Habitat: Common in northern mesic to wet-mesic hardwood forest dominated by Quercus rubra with occasional Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, Picea glauca. Sphagnum hummocks become common near sedge meadow to southwest.
Substrate: Peat.
Associated Species: Gaultheria procumbens, Cornus canadensis, Vaccinium angustifolium, Pteridium aquilinum.
Description: Dominant in 25m x 25m patch (probably larger).
