Habitat: Local, diffuse in patch about 3 m x 6 m. On slight north-facing slope in dry-mesic hardwood forest dominated by Quercus rubra and Acer rubrum. The understory mostly open with Ostrya virginiana Prunus virginiana.
Substrate: Sandy loam.
Associated Species: Carex pensylvanica, Acer rubrum seedlings.
