Habitat: Local patch about 3 m x 3 m in dry-mesic hardwood forest dominated by Acer rubrum, Betula papyrifera, Pinus strobus and occasional Quercus rubra. Corylus americana in shrub layer.
Substrate: Sandy-loam.
Associated Species: Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Athyrium angustum, Pinus strobus seedlings.
