Habitat: Rare in oak forest/woodland dominated by Quercus ellipsoidalis and Betula papyrifera. Quercus alba occasional. Mostly open shrub layer with Corylus americana dominant.
Substrate: Sandy loam.
Associated Species: Osmunda claytoniana, Eurybia macrophylla, Dendrolycopodium hickeyi, Aquilegia canadensis, Quercus rubra, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Rubus sp., Cornus canadensis, Dryopteris carthusiana.
