Locality:
United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. On the shores of Basswood Lake in rugged bedrock terrain 11 miles north-northeast of Ely, on a very small (~0.1-acre) island in Jackfish Bay.

Habitat:
Locally common. Level setting atop the island, ~18 inches above the lake (which is presently near the early season high mark). Amongst small boulders in fairly moist, rocky, sandy soil. Full sun to partial shade of three Thuja occidentalis and one Pinus banksiana, the only trees on the island.

Associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Myrica gale, Prunus susquehanae, Euthamia graminifolia, Lysimachia ciliata, Calamagrostis canadensis.
