Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. On the shores of Basswood Lake in rugged bedrock terrain 11 miles north-northeast of Ely, on the north shore of Jackfish Bay.

Habitat: Occasional quite locally. In coarse sand atop a sand beach (~30 inches above lake level) in a small shoreline cove. Partial shade of Acer saccharinum and Fraxinus pennsylvanica growing along the margin of a small wetland just behind on the inland side of) the beach. Branching shrubs, to ~10 feet tall.
Associated Species: Associates include Cornus racemosa, Prunus susquehanae, Quercus macrocarpa, Rosa acicularis, Parthenocissus inserta, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Amelanchier sp., Viburnum rafinesquianum, Lathyrus venosus.
