United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the shore of Basswood Lake in rugged bedrock terrain 11 miles north-northeast of Ely, along the north shore of Jackfish Bay.

Habitat:
Local. Common on the steep south-facing slope of a 40-foot high sand and gravel terrace that forms the lakeshore here. In partial shade beneath Pinus banksiana, Betula papyrifera, and young Pinus resinosa in a savanna-like setting. Loose patches in coarse sand and gravel that is bare (exposed, unvegetated) over much of the slope. Hundreds of plants.
