Rare and local in a peatland recovering from long-past beaver flooding (formerly a poor conifer swamp / spruce bog). Deep saturated peat. Small clumps on low hummocks of Sphagnum mosses. Full sun to partial shade.
Associates include Carex stricta, C. utriculata, Drosera rotundifolia, Solidago uliginosa, Dryopteris cristata, Aster umbellatus, Chamaedaphne calyculata.
