Frequent in the ecotone between a steep, 80-foot, north-facing slope and an open peatland that is recovering from long-past beaver flooding (formerly a poor conifer swamp / spruce bog). Partial shade of Picea glauca, P. mariana, Pinus strobus, P. banksiana, and Betula papyrifera. Thick moss mats (Sphagnum, Pleurozium). Rocky, silty-organic soil. Mesic boreal setting. Consistently with 2 (to 3) stroboli per stalk.
