Uncommon and local in the narrow ecotone between the steep north-facing slope of 80-foot ridge and an open peatland recovering from long-past beaver flooding (formerly a poor conifer swamp / spruce bog). Partial shade of Picea glauca, P. mariana, Pinus strobus, P. banksiana, and Betula papyrifera. Rocky, silty-organic soil. Thick moss mats (Sphagnum, Pleurozium). Mesic boreal setting. Consistently with one stroboli per stalk.
