Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the shores of Basswood Lake in rugged bedrock terrain 10 miles north-northeast of Ely, along the north shore of Jackfish Bay.

Habitat: Frequent locally in a large granitic outcrop complex atop an 80-foot bedrock ridge. Loose clumps in shallow detrital-organic soil over bedrock. Mostly in full sun (to partial shade of scattered Pinus banksiana). Level to sloping settings.
Associated Species: Associates include Danthonia spicata, Corydalis sempervirens, Sibbaldiopsis tridentata, Polygonum douglasii, Dichanthelium acuminatum, D. linearifolium, Cardamine parviflora, Woodsia ilvensis, Agrostis scabra, Oryzopsis pungens, Selaginella rupestris, Prunus susquehanae, Rhus glabra, Juniperus communis.
