Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain 17 miles northeast of Ely. On the bank of the Basswood River just downstream from Basswood Falls.

Habitat: Local, several bushes form a small, loose copse. In shallow silty soil over granitic bedrock ~8 feet above the river level. Several- to many-stemmed and many-branched shrubs 3-6 feet tall, loaded with red fruits. Full sun. Easterly aspect to the fairly steep, rocky, river bank here.
Associated Species: Associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Prunus pensylvanica, P. susquehanae, Solidago nemoralis, Danthonia spicata.
