Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Fairly rugged bedrock terrain north of Fourtown Lake, 15 miles north-northeast of Ely, on the northeastern shore of Moosecamp Lake.

Habitat: Very local. Loose to fairly dense patch of several dozen plants in shallow water (to ~8 inches deep), and just above the water line. Gravelly soil, amongst fairly large boulders. Mostly in full sun. Female spikes are a distinctly reddish-brown color; male spikes are dark brown.
Associated Species: Associates include Eriocaulon aquaticum, Ranunculus flammula, Juncus brevicaudatus, Myrica gale.
