Habitat:
Very local. Loose to fairly dense patch of several dozen plants in shallow water (to ~8 inches deep), and just above the water line. Gravelly soil, amongst fairly large boulders. Mostly in full sun. Female spikes are a distinctly reddish-brown color; male spikes are dark brown.
