Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Fairly rugged bedrock terrain 12 miles north-northeast of Ely, on the east side of Fourtown Lake, west of the portages to Horse Lake.

Habitat: Local in a 40-acre peatland. 6-10 small but fairly dense patches in poor fen, in a ~2-acre area in the wetter eastern half of a peatland that appears to be recovering from long-past (logging era) flooding that raised the water level of the adjoining lake as much as six feet (for floating logs to Horse Lake). In settings where the sedges are less dense. Full sun. Deep peat.
Associated Species: Associates include stunted Chamaedaphne calyculata and Myrica gale, also Drosera rotundifolia, Pogonia ophioglossoides, Lycopus uniflorus, Carex utriculata, Rhynchospora alba.
