Infrequent in old growth upland cedar forest. Canopy dominated by mature Thuja occidentalis, with scattered, large, supercanopy Pinus strobus, P. resinosa, and Populus tremuloides. Patchy understory of Abies balsamea.
Associates include Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Huperzia lucidula, Lycopodium clavatum, Spinulum annotinum, Mitella nuda, Clintonia borealis, Pyrola chlorantha, Linnaea borealis, Oryzopsis asperifolia.
