Locality: United States, Minnesota, Morrison, Crane Meadows State Wildlife Management Area in Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Gently rolling sandy outwash along the lower reaches of Buckman Creek, five miles west-northwest of Buckman, eight miles southeast of Little Falls.

Habitat: Occasional to locally abundant in dry woodland (overgrown savanna). Interrupted canopy of large, open-grown Quercus ellipsoidalis, and younger Q. ellipsoidalis and Pinus banksiana. Deep sand. Gentle north- to northeast-facing slope settings. Low shrubs, 10-20 inches tall.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Dendrolycopodium hickeyi, Lycopodium clavatum, Geum triflorum, Maianthemum canadense, Rubus strigosus, Vaccinium cespitosum, Juniperus virginiana.
