Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, University of Minnesota's Hubachek Wilderness Research Center. Fairly rugged bedrock terrain on the north side of Fall Lake, five miles northeast of Ely, along the two-track road leading to Browns Lake.

Habitat: Locally abundant in a small ash swamp along a small stream. Interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra. Patchy shrub layer of Corylus cornuta, Acer spicatum, Prunus virginiana, Ulmus americana. Moist, rocky, shallow organic soil with small boulders. Large dense patches. Yellow flowers.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Luzula acuminata, Carex pedunculata, C. peckii, Maianthemum canadense, Aralia racemosa, A. nudicaulis, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Athyrium angustum, Trillium cernuum, Arisaema triphyllum.
