Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Moderately rugged bedrock terrain between Snowbank and Moose Lakes, 17 miles east-northeast of Ely. Frequent locally on mid-slope of a 50-foot bedrock ridge at the northwest corner of Secret Lake, along the Secret-Blackstone Hiking Trail.

Habitat: Forming loose clumps on a steep south-facing slope, above 20-foot high shoreline cliffs. Full sun to partial shade of Pinus resinosa in dry pine woodland. Shallow, rocky, silty-clay over meta-sedimentary bedrock (Knife Lake Group). Additional associates include Carex abdita, Micranthes virginiensis, Antennaria howellii, Campanula rotundifolia, Woodsia ilvensis, Selaginella rupestris, Amelanchier humilis, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Rhus glabra, Rosa acicularis.
