Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Rugged forested terrain along the South Fork Root River, 1/2 mile southwest of Choice, nine miles southeast of Lanesboro, ~1/3-mile downstream from the mouth of Shattuck Creek.

Habitat: Quite local on a narrow ridge spur, atop an extremely steep, south-facing bluff. Oak savanna. Patchy canopy of Quercus alba, Q. macrocarpa, Populus grandidentata, Tilia americana, and Juniperus virginiana. Partial shade. Small but dense patches on a gentle to fairly steep southeast-facing slope, atop dry dolomite cliffs. Silty soil.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. eburnea, C. cephalophora, Andropogon gerardii, Erigeron pulchellus, Coreopsis palmata, Commandra umbellata, Juniperus communis, Amorpha canescens.
