Habitat: Occasional to frequent on sandstone buttes known locally as the Camel's Back, especially on the crest and north-facing slopes of the 100-foot high buttes. Dry prairie degraded by past grazing. Rocky silty sand. Full sun to partial shade of Juniperus virginiana.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Zigadenus elegans, Geum triflorum, Ranunculus rhomboideus, Anemone patens, Heuchera richardsonii, Viola pedatifida, Lithospermum incisum, Campanula rotundifolia, Antennaria howellii, Achillea millefolium, Poa pratensis, P. compressa, Festuca trachyphylla, Dichanthelium linearifolium.
