Habitat: Occasional on sandstone buttes known locally as the Camel's Back, especially on the crest and north-facing slopes of the 100-foot high buttes. Dry prairie degraded by past grazing. Rocky silty sand. Full sun to partial shade of Juniperus virginiana.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Zigadenus elegans, Geum triflorum, Scutellaria leonardii, Anemone patens, Heuchera richardsonii, Viola pedatifida, Lithospermum incisum, Campanula rotundifolia, Poa pratensis, P. compressa, Festuca trachyphylla, Dichanthelium linearifolium.
